Council District 12 is my Neighborhood. I…

live in the district,

work in the district,

and send my children to public school in the district.

“Council District 12 needs a committed, creative council member with the fortitude to tackle the challenges of the district and the city as a whole. The best person for that job is Loraine Lundquist.”

- The Los Angeles Times

Hi! I’m Loraine Lundquist.

I’m a scientist, activist, and mom. I was raised by a career army soldier and a middle school math teacher, and I lived all over the country before settling in Northridge for the past 9 years. I have a Ph.D. in physics from UC Berkeley, and served as a Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the National Academy of Sciences and a research scientist at Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.

When I became a new mom, I grew concerned about the future my children faced in a world threatened by climate catastrophe. I chose to devote my life to spreading the word about climate change, and engaging in political activism, advocating common-sense solutions.

Now I am a Faculty Associate at the Institute for Sustainability at CSUN. I try to inspire my students to take action in their own lives, and get involved in improving their communities.

For my own part, I’ve advocated for social justice. I volunteered to teach college math to people in prison. I work on homelessness issues in my community as the co-chair of the homelessness committee of Northridge East Neighborhood Council, and I’m a founding member of the West Valley Neighborhood Alliance on Homelessness. I’m a proud union member, an elected delegate to the California Democratic Party, and I was honored as the 2017 Female Democrat of the Year for Assembly District 45. I’ve been a foster parent to three children, one of whom I recently adopted.

I am not taking corporate PAC money. We're running the type of grassroots campaign that is only victorious if we can mobilize leaders from throughout the community to get involved.
